Re: Get Better film
Q&A Was fine in Reading but the film then didn't work!
Re: Get Better film
We were given the option of switching off the stream and going straight to the film or carrying on with it, so glad we carried on now.
I did imagine the cinema staff outside the room picking straws as to which poor sod would have to tell us all that we could see frank but not hear him!
Although one girl shouted "its ok, I can look at his face for 2 hours!"
And Frank? There was no embarrassing moments in that film, it was a heartfelt film about how even you feel just like everyone else and have bad days and self doubts and still manage to pull yourself out of it and put on another amazing gig.
(although your Mum calling you Frances might be a tad embarrassing!)

Re: Get Better film
Manchester didn't get video or sound. We sat with a black screen and Christmas songs on loop for an hour.
We had a poor young lad run in, shout "I'm really sorry for the delay, we're working on it!" and then leg it back out again. He was truly shitting himself. The manager came in and told us as 7:25 that we just weren't going to get the live stream at all because there was no signal coming through to the "box". They did refund us though, and give us guest passes for any film so they were quite good about it.
The £20 refund from the tickets is going on the Sleep is for the Week vinyl - seems like the right thing to do!

No problems at all in Crawley, seems like we were lucky! Lots of interesting stuff in there, like with the book, not just about Frank, but the general life of a touring musician.hellbound wrote:There was No sound across the UK for the first bit, not just one cinema.
If you're oh so fucking different, who cares what you have to say?
Re: Get Better film
Seems a sporadic issue as it was fine in Falmouth (Cornwall) and I know others that had no problems elsewhere.hellbound wrote:There was No sound across the UK for the first bit, not just one cinema.
I'd have been mightily miffed.
I really enjoyed the film. I think it was honest and insightful, not only about Frank et al but also thought provoking about the regime of touring on other artists, and also the crew.
Re: Get Better film
Sound quality was a little dodgy in Leeds for the first 10 mins or so, but after executing the old IT fix (they turned it off and on again) it was fine. Q&A and set were ace, film was brilliant. Great night.

First 20 minutes of the Q&A were silent for us in Birmingham as well. All good after that though, and the very insightful documentary was well worth the watch.

Re: Get Better film
With the DVD release finally upon us, here are the Things I've Learned From Get Better:
1. Bundles never arrive on release day. As I have the patience of a fruit fly, I caved and bought another copy from my local HMV instead. This behaviour may explain why I own multiple copies of every CD, book and DVD. One day I'll learn*.
2. Frank's family and friends seem to be excellent human beings. Nigel in particular is a god amongst men. Everyone should have a Nigel in their life.
3. Frank's "shittiest show" may not have been brilliant but is still leagues ahead of certain 'top of their game' gigs by other artists that I've had to endure. Naming no names but a folk trio who decided that a Brixton Academy gig would be the best place to unleash their experimental 15-minute spoken word jazz fusion track springs to mind. My ears still haven't recovered.
4. Organicism should definitely be a word.
In seriousness, I really loved the film - poignant, insightful, troubling and uplifting in equal measure. Kudos to everyone involved for making such an honest and authentic piece of work, rather than some formulaic and sycophantic 90-minute promo piece. It was fascinating and emotional to watch.
* but until then I'll be opening a sweepstake on how many copies of the Show 2000 DVD I end up with once it's released.
