Variations on Swing: 6/10, 7 at a push. (blasphemy?!)
agreed.

i used to be quite into MMISL but i'd just about blown myself out by the time the album actually came out.

Disagreed.

I'd give it an 8.5/10, maybe higher. I can't think of a single album that has come out since then that I've enjoyed as much.

I think that says more about the standard of music recently than the actual album itself.

or just old age.

Interesting difference in musical taste there. I have never made it to the end. Got about half way through the first disc and thought "Yup. Reuben. Give a crap" and turned it off.

saw Jamie last week as it goes. He has a moustache now. A dreadful moustache.
Its probably the single album where after finishing listening to it for the first time I knew I'd be listening to it again at least 500 more (slight exaggeration). It doesn't get played much because it is a really quite depressing record, but every time I do listen to it I love it. Only one weak track on there for me (Agony Agatha). I love Jamie's moustache, I think in the modern day it takes quite a lot of courage to grow something as ridiculous as that! By first disc do you mean first album? Most people hail that as their best but I disagree.

And for the record, the only albums that have come out recently that I've enjoyed as much as Variations On Swing are INWT by Reuben and the Blakfish album...

MMISL's album is probably one of my favourite albums of all time. i find something new to like about it almost every time i listen to it. quite surprised to see people saying they sort of liked it... i always thought it would be a marmite type thing.

BSM = British School of Motoring. As well as teaching 17 yr olds how to drive they also put out records.
