Lucero in the UK

One of my favorite bands, Lucero will be in the UK from 4/25-4/27. Germany after that. Snarky, snarky country. Like male Lucinda Williams. As we say in urban Maryland, go-and-repre sent . One of my favorite songs. As they call it, sittin' around, waiting for the phone to ring music. https://www.yout...

Re: 9:30 Club show inWash. DC 6/4/2014 now on sale

I'm in. Although I don't know if I can get off work yet. Still bought a ticket. A bit leery of the new 9:30. Drunk guys seem to want to jump on my toes there. The old 9:30 was so peaceful. Maybe because we were too cool to get excited about the music. Old 97's on 5/31. I'll be there, too. I'll play ...

Re: The Hold Steady

Yay, another THS fan! I'm stoked for the new album. Can't see the show in DC, though. I DID see them pay their dues at the Otto Bar recently, though. Apparently they did... maybe their 2nd show there? If you pressed your back against the back wall, Craig would still drip sweat on you. Tramps like us...

Awesome. You are the Maria Ency-clo-pidia. Great song version. I see it's from a live album that I don't own yet.

Re: More Barbara Allen

kelly - Song histories get curiousier and curiousier . I take lessons from the Online Irish Academy of Irish Music. I'm working on The Lakes of Pochatrain now. It seems that nobody knows why a song, obviously from Louisiana, shows up in the Irish cannon. I was weened on traditional American music. I...

Re: More Barbara Allen

EVERYBODY....Stop. Give yourself a big hug. We are debating Barbera Allen's lyrics after...what 500 years or so? As a blues guy who thinks that a 50 year old song is OLD, I've got to say, THIS IS AWESOME! By the way, in America, I learned the song, in English class, as "Barbry Allen". Any comments?

Re: Maria McKee?

Awesome to even get a reply to this thread! I was lucky to see LJ open for U2 in a little hockey arena. (U2's manager got thrown in jail for the "Come On Down" stuff. My wife is STILL jealous that I went and she didn't.) She was the It Girl after her first solo album came out and then she totally Mi...

Maria McKee?

Any fans? I finally got around to getting her "Live at the BBC" album. Fierce piece of music. I'm not sure what happened to her.

Re: A Cat Named Virtute

I seriously need a third song about this darned cat. What happens to her?! I've been wondering for about four years now. Can you put the thumbscrews to the Weakerthans to release an album...or at least give you a song to play?

Re: Jackson Browne

Listen to his "Of Missing Persons" and then listen to Inaura George. Her dad's version of "Trouble" will do nicely. We're big Little Feat fans here in DC. Sad story. Sad songs.

Re: The Weakerthans

Awesome cover. If Frank can't get a duo bill with them, maybe he can twist their collective arm to get them to release "Virtute III". Our heroine is cold, hungry, half-earless and living in a garage. Oh the horror! How will it end? I must know. Threaten the curling-loving ones for scrapping them for...

I always assume people cheat in situations like this to sound more worldly.
