Re: Acoustic singers/songwriters/storytellers

The best place to discover more is probably to go to local gigs. Eventually, you'll build up lots of singer-songwriters to watch.

For me, the best one-man-and-his-guitar is Billy Bragg.

On a smaller scale, check out Sam Russo.

Re: best band you've seen this year??

Not a band, but Joe Summers has been consistently brilliant and I've seen him a couple of times so far this year.

Re: What are you thankful for?

I'm thankful I've got a job, own my own home and get to do all of the things that I want to (go to gigs, put the heating on, cook nice food etc). I work bloody hard mind you, but still, lots of people aren't lucky enough to be able to go on holiday once a year or buy a few pints in the pub like I do.

Re: November Tour Setlist

Has he ever performed the songs from the Rock & Roll EP? I've seen Rock n Roll Romance and I Still Believe obviously but the other 3? He played The Next Round a few times when the EP was first released, if i remember correctly He played Pass It Along and Rock and Roll Romance in Gloucester on his s...

Re: Jim Lockey Setlist

Yep, great songs, but I just don't think they would sound the same as they used to as the 'feel' of the band is different now (much louder/grittier and less folky) - the first time I saw them the bass player was using an upright double bass! Imagine that now!

Re: Jim Lockey Setlist

To be fair, they spent years playing songs from the first two albums. I don't know how many times I've seen them play Atlases, Waitress and The Boat Song. It's funny, I was looking at some of my old digital camera videos yesterday and came across one of Waitress from about 2009 in Cheltenham when Jo...

Re: Non-Frank Gigs

Technically this was a non-Frank gig: Fighting Fiction, Imperial Leisure, Jim Lockey, Sonic Boom Six and a special secret headliner.... Frank played a solo set in Cheltenham last night at the Frog & Fiddle as a warm up. It was like old times...I love the way that although I've seen him play the tiny...

Re: Cheap Southampton Bistro

This might be wrong, but I believe he was referring to "Jerry Lee and Johnny and all the greats". Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash, and the other saints of rock and roll. Yup. Bistro, uh, can't remember I'm afraid. Clearly the saints must be - Buffy Saint-Marie, Allen Toussaint (geddit?) and of course,...

Re: November Tour Setlist

I don't really know any of the new songs as I haven't seen him since Wembley Arena, but I would like to see 'Worse Things Happen At Sea' as well as 'My Kingdom For A Horse' (which was a nice surprise when played on the solo tour with Ben Marwood a while back).

Re: Your all time Top 10 Frank Turner songs???

The top of mine are mostly earlier ones as that's when I got into his music and it reminds me more of travelling, going to FT gigs here there and everywhere, and watching his gradual rise from playing record shops to the Olympic Stadium (via the Oxford Wheatsheaf and places like that). I just though...

Re: knee down at Photosynthesis

Eddie Argos of Art Brut got everyone to sit down in the middle of 'Modern Art' at the Oxford Jericho last year. He then began ranting and raving about art galleries which led to an uncomfortable 4 or 5 minutes. It really was that long.

Mine was Symposium at the Axiom in Cheltenham in 1999. Brilliant band. Tiny venue.
