CFF review

Some self promotion. A UK website has recently started publishing my live reviews.
As if I needed an excuse to go to more gigs!
There's an FT one there too (move down a bit).

Re: Frank for Roskilde

I try this every year. Roskilde is kind of the Danish equivalent of Glastonbury. The setting may not be as scenic, but it is a great festival with a huge variety of music and a great vibe. Very well organized too. The festival allow the public to vote for acts they'd like to see on the line up. Let'...

Re: UK tour dates announced....

I had read 9 a.m. in one place and 10 a.m. in another, so switched on the laptop at 8:55 just in case. I had the email at that point. I know this is not nice to read if you missed out (but it will be fine tomorrow), but I had no problems at all getting tickets for Guildford and Portsmouth. I even ha...

Re: Any Sugestions for current songwriters?

I'm a huge fan of Joe Pug. One of the best young(ish) songwriters in my opinion.

Re: Non-Frank Gigs

I was at Cambridge Folk Festival last weekend - my very favourite festival. These were my highlights, in this order! Gogol Bordello, Christy Moore, Kíla, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Glen Hansard, Solas, Duncan Chisholm, Le Vent du Nord, Chris Wood, Lisa O'Neill, Darlingside, Jon Boden. Sadly I missed bot...

Re: Boss in Paris

Hi Watergirl, Were you right up at the barrier at the Bruce gig in Rome? Were you also at the FT gig in Belfast this year? Due to delayed flights and then a confused taxi driver we didn't get to the Circus Maximus until much later then we'd intended, so were quite far back, and watched the gig thro...

Re: Dublin!

No news on any of that yet. It's a good bit away, but I guess when it comes to the time we should pick a pub in the area and we can all go there for a pre-gig pint. My suggestion would be the Long Hall. Beautiful pub, close by. Don't miss the bars inside the Olympia though. There are several. One of...

Re: Boss in Paris

Hey TheBigJT, I actually travelled to LA and was at shows 1 and 2. It felt extravagant but I decided on that before the European shows were announced, and made a holiday out of it as I had never been to LA. It was great indeed to hear some of the less often played songs. The version of 'I wanna marr...

Re: Boss in Paris

Thanks for the reply. I love 'Reason to believe' as well. Can imagine the powercut was scary initially.
I went to Rome for my last Bruce gig for the summer. Spectacular location and the added bonus of Counting Crows supporting; my first time seeing them.

Boss in Paris

Hi Frank. In your latest blog you mention catching Bruce in Paris. You must have been at that power cut show.
Just wondering what you thought of it and how it compared to previous times you've seen him.

Re: Non-Frank Gigs

I was at Killarney Folk last weekend. Fantastic few days. Saw loads and came home with a small harvest of CDs. Highlights: The Waterboys, We Banjo 3, Iarla O Lionaird, Mairtin O Connor Band, Michael McGoldrick Big Band, Christy Moore, Colm Mac Con Iomaire, Damien Dempsey, Maria Doyle Kennedy, Marc O...

Re: Dublin!

Excellent news (although I still prefer the Academy!)!! Really? Why is that Paul? Both are fine for sound and views, but I think the Olympia is just so much prettier. I love Maureen's Bar, with all the framed photos of herself and all the people who have played over the years. Even the corridors ar...
