The Hold Steady in London

Hi Frank

I notice on your live shows page you have a gap between 23rd Feb and 14th March. THS are doing their London shows on 9th and 10th March. Any plans to repeat your New York mission? It would at least be nearer this time.

Looking forward to the shows in April and the new album.

Cheers

Re: The Decemberists and synth pop

I am a big Decemberists fan. I really like the new song. I think it's good for bands to change things up and try new directions. They have a massive range of styles anyway, from sea shanties to prog rock concept albums to jangly hipster acoustic to country to contemporary indie rock... that's why th...

Show 2000

I'm coming to see you at Rock City on Dec 9th and then again 6 days later for show 2000. Can you give any hints as to what if anything will be different between the two shows? E.g. set list, supports? Or is it going to be a surprise? Either way, can't wait.
Cheers

Re: Dead Kennedys

One of the greatest bands of all time but the DKs without Biafra are not the DKs. They're a bit like Queen + Adam Lambert now, a tribute band of themselves

Confessional songwriting

Hi Frank I was watching an interview with John K Samson about songwriting and he was talking about writing from the point of view, or in the voice of someone else. He said something like "the confessional is the default setting for a songwriter". I know that other people you have said you are a fan ...

You can't dislike a song with Jamie Lenman on it.

CM Punk

Hi Frank, really like the new video. What was it like working with Punk? Did he give you a bit of a battering to make it look more authentic? Your spear looked pretty good too, did you have many goes at it? And a mighty elbow drop for the finisher. You should have attempted a shooting star press. Be...

Re: New album

I really like the song, like the lyrics, guitars and vocals sound fantastic. Nigel's drums sound really different though. Obviously Frank has said a few times that he was going for a more raw sound and they recorded it live, but it is a real contrast from the really rich and crisp production of EKMB...

Secret gigs

Hi Frank I just recently started following you on twitter and seeing your "nod and a wink" style promos for your unannounced gigs in LA and in London. My question is, as an artist who has done an arena tour, massive festivals, and sells out big venues, and obviously has a manager, agent, record comp...

Do you get recognised much when you are just out and about, like on the tube or in the pub?

On a scale of 1 to 10 how famous are you?
