No Man's Land

Having had the album on constant repeat for a week, I can confidently say that I Believed You, William Blake is one of my favourite FT songs of all time. So much power, poignancy and lyricism. Just beautiful. Mind you, I'm also in love with The Lioness. And Jinny Bingham. And Rescue Annie. And Rosem...

Re: Birmingham presale

Sorry you didn’t get what you wanted, but for the record you didn’t need to order a CD to get the discount code - you could just register your email address to receive one. I managed to get the presale tickets I wanted so there were definitely some available. Just luck of the draw, I guess. I’m sure...

Re: Tales from No Man's Land

I found it fascinating too. Can’t wait to hear the rest of the series.

And if FT wasn’t already enough of a gateway drug into other acts, I’ve been downloading not just Rosetta Tharpe but Emily Barker’s back catalogue too, thanks to her guest appearance on the podcast - what a voice.

Re: Lost Evenings

God, I love German efficiency. My Lost Evenings IV tickets for Berlin have arrived already and are a work of art (although the likelihood of my misplacing them in the next 358 days = 100%). LE3 was honestly the best festival experience I've ever had; entirely worth the 6,000 mile round trip, and I'm...

UK festivals

Really pleased by the number of UK festivals FT is playing this year (and all the best festivals too). Having made it through an unprecedented 8-month FT gig drought recently, it now looks like I’ll be seeing Frank and the Souls pretty much every weekend this summer (and the Hörde too at 2000 Trees)...

Re: Build Me Up Buttercup

‘Happy Together’ by the Turtles is another great example. Despite the upbeat 60s pop stylings and catchy singalongs, the lyrics are horribly dark - at best, a sad tale of unrequited love, but to my ears, really sinister and stalkerish (“Imagine me and you; I do, I think about you day and night” and ...

Try This At Home book

I've always been fascinated by (and, if I'm honest, jealous of) people's songwriting abilities, so I can't wait to read this. And, as he did with The Road Beneath My Feet, it's very kind of Frank to release this one in my birthday month too. Courtesy of my family and friends all having the same pres...

Re: Lost Evenings III

Perfect, thank you - all sorted (and with most of my vital organs still intact). Can’t wait to see who else gets added to the bill, based on how good the LE1 and LE2 line ups were.

Re: Lost Evenings III

Hope you got your tickets? Having heard the US rumours, I'd reconciled myself with not being able to go next year . . . and then I saw the line up. Jeepers. The chance to see, in my humble opinion, the three finest songwriters ever to have walked the earth (Loudon Wainwright III, John K Samson and F...

Re: Did anyone use Gigs and Tours for their tickets?

I'd forgotten about this thread until it popped up this morning. But in the interests of balance, a couple of weeks ago I ordered tickets for Tim Minchin's UK tour in November 2019, and the hard copy tickets have already been delivered. Probability of my losing them somewhere around the house in the...

Is anyone out there?!

It's been mighty quiet on here lately - are there any Forumites still out there, or is everyone just using the (mildly disturbing) FTA Facebook group these days? Based on recent interviews it sounds like there could be a lot for us to get excited and/or wildly speculate about (Lost Evenings 3, new M...

Re: frank vinyl

I have to say, the red vinyl Lost Evenings edition looks beautiful (especially loving the mirrored sleeve). Thanks for the download tip, as I was struggling! It’s fascinating to hear the changes in the live shows over the last ten years. And while Ladies of London Town has never been at the top of m...

Re: Be More Kind release

UPDATE: having spotted that none of the three CDs in my various bundles were signed, the completist in me wouldn’t settle until I’d ordered the signed CD off the website too. Which also comes with a cassette version, so I figure I’m now up to eight copies. TAKE THAT, JACKMAN!

Be More Kind release

The week is upon us! I'm pleased (and/or disturbed) to say that, on clearing out my emails, I appear to have lived up to my reputation as a marketeer's wet dream by pre-ordering Be More Kind no fewer than six times in five different formats. If the album doesn't get to Number One this time, it won't...
