Re: Lost Evenings III

Perfect, thank you - all sorted (and with most of my vital organs still intact). Can’t wait to see who else gets added to the bill, based on how good the LE1 and LE2 line ups were.

Re: Lost Evenings III

Hope you got your tickets? Having heard the US rumours, I'd reconciled myself with not being able to go next year . . . and then I saw the line up. Jeepers. The chance to see, in my humble opinion, the three finest songwriters ever to have walked the earth (Loudon Wainwright III, John K Samson and F...

Re: Did anyone use Gigs and Tours for their tickets?

I'd forgotten about this thread until it popped up this morning. But in the interests of balance, a couple of weeks ago I ordered tickets for Tim Minchin's UK tour in November 2019, and the hard copy tickets have already been delivered. Probability of my losing them somewhere around the house in the...

Is anyone out there?!

It's been mighty quiet on here lately - are there any Forumites still out there, or is everyone just using the (mildly disturbing) FTA Facebook group these days? Based on recent interviews it sounds like there could be a lot for us to get excited and/or wildly speculate about (Lost Evenings 3, new M...

Re: frank vinyl

I have to say, the red vinyl Lost Evenings edition looks beautiful (especially loving the mirrored sleeve). Thanks for the download tip, as I was struggling! It’s fascinating to hear the changes in the live shows over the last ten years. And while Ladies of London Town has never been at the top of m...

Re: Be More Kind release

UPDATE: having spotted that none of the three CDs in my various bundles were signed, the completist in me wouldn’t settle until I’d ordered the signed CD off the website too. Which also comes with a cassette version, so I figure I’m now up to eight copies. TAKE THAT, JACKMAN!

Be More Kind release

The week is upon us! I'm pleased (and/or disturbed) to say that, on clearing out my emails, I appear to have lived up to my reputation as a marketeer's wet dream by pre-ordering Be More Kind no fewer than six times in five different formats. If the album doesn't get to Number One this time, it won't...

Loudon Wainwright - Liner Notes

Hi Frank, curious to know if you (or anyone else on here) have read Loudon Wainwright's recent autobiography, Liner Notes? It's every bit as candid as his songs and, to be honest, he doesn't come out of it looking too good, but it's fascinating to read about his life and the stories behind the songs...

Re: A few quick questions

On that last point, the Facebook group now has over 10,000 members so I suspect that's where people are mostly hanging out. Kind of a shame for those who don't want to delve too deep into the murky world of social media. While the FB group has moments of awesomeness (meet-ups, gig buddies) it also r...

Re: Mongol Horde - Gigs 2018

I’ve woken up deaf, hoarse and approximately 85% bruise, but damn, how good was Birmingham last night? Some things I learned: 1) The world needs more Möngöl Hörde. Sure, people have day jobs and whatnot, but still. We need this. 2) Slack Blabbath should definitely be a thing. 3) Madonna songs are su...

The Decemberists and synth pop

Are there any Decemberists fans in here? Curious to hear thoughts on their new direction if so, especially given that they too seem to have swapped the acoustic guitars for electronica (must be something in the water). Having grown up with (and hated) 80s synth pop the first time round, it’s taking ...

Don’t panic, I don’t think they’ve been sent out yet - I haven’t had mine in any case. So excited for this!

Re: Richard Thompson (Gloom and Doom From The Tomb)

I saw Richard Thompson a few years ago playing his '1000 Years of Popular Music' show - a really fascinating project and well worth checking out if you have any interest in the history of music. He's undoubtedly a phenomenal songwriter and musician, although his rapport with the audience was somewha...

Re: Mongol Horde - Gigs 2018

So excited at the return of Merngerl Herde - see you in Birmingham! I was on holiday for the last MH tour, so there’s no way I’m going to miss this one (even if it means a long road trip up to my old Midlands home town for the first time in years. Bostin’). Hoping this means a new Hörde album on the...

Re: Lost Evenings II

Ooh, Homeless Gospel Choir - good shout. This fantasy line-up keeps getting better . . . I wonder if The Tailors could be persuaded back into action, after their brilliant set at Show 2000? And I'm very excited for another XMR night. Surely there'll have to be Mr McGowan in the mix. And maybe some F...
