Re: Careers vs Values

Fair enough, I would say that it is unlikely that you would be able to do much about the issues you mention until very late in your career. Since you asked for experiences, I once applied for a job with GCHQ, not only did they reject me, but they did not include enough postage of the rejection lette...

Re: Ticket Touts

This will be a short lived problem anyway... we are still using printed pieces of paper to gain entry to venues. Expect this to be ancient history inside of 10 years, especially now we all walk around with sophisticated computers in our pockets.

Re: Careers vs Values

Ryan,

When the team responsible for vetting you for security clearance see this post, your odds will drop significantly anyway ;), I would suggest that you have already made your decision.

Springsteen always been an artist that I have been undereducated on, which is weird because whenever one of his tracks comes on the radio, I always reach for the volume with that, "Fucking love this track!" thought in my head. Thanks to this thread, I decided to get started properly. Downloaded grea...

The home distilling/brewing discussion brings to mind a brief attempt I made at growing my own weed. My quite valiant efforts were crimped a bit when our next door neighbor (who worked with my then wife and gave her a lift in in the morning), asked why our top bedroom light was on all night... we we...

On the subject of the negotiation I can imagine PM candidates being pretty keen to sort out a deal to get them into power.... chancellor candidates less so. In fact, I would be positively shitting my pants at the prospect with the way things are. The problems that we have to solve (and I think we wi...

Just been giving PR a think through and decided that I am totally and utterly against the idea. Which is odd, because I used to think I was for it. Basically, I think that political parties are the root of the problem in our system. We need to disconnect our leaders from the 'hive mind'. Choose indi...

The flaw in democracy always seems to be how much you expect from your fellow voters rather than your candidates. I agree that social networking is going to play a huge part. That said, social media is just the channel. This will not be the first election where it is the strategists that have fought...

Ahhh ok, I am out of the country so I am not completely up to date, some of the things I have been reading seemed to suggest the possibility of a LD PM. Hard to know how speculative something is when you are only glancing at stuff with one squinted eye in between 'better things to do' ;). Coalition ...

Ok, I have posted elsewhere about my mostly total disinterest in 'organised politics'... however, I do now have one eyebrow raised. Could the Lib Dems actually do this? I kinda hope so, not because I want to see a UK under Lib Dem leadership especially, but I think it would shake things up a bit, an...

Wez. I'm going to assume that you've been away from Wilmington for a while so I doubt you've heard that Swanley 'is now BNP' - http://www.newsshopper.co.uk/news/4141456.SWANLEY__BNP_wins_council_by_election/ Oh, how I would love to be surprised by this. Unfortunately, I am a little too familiar wit...

None of the above. None of the possible PM candidates move me enough to blink, let alone go to the trouble of casting an absentee ballot. With regard to MP, I am not even sure how the absentee thing works, which constituency it would be counted in (I hop around a bit). My view on the process is, if ...
