Re: Bluegrass

Glad you like the song. I guess I'd been thinking about bluegrass licks in D shapes (it's in E major, but capo 2 so D shapes), runs and turnarounds and so on. The solo is an amalgamation of a bunch of different licks I've been playing with over the last few years. Definitely the hardest bit of guita...

One offs here and there. It's something that might come up in the future when I slow down a bit, I've been offered shows here and there.

Re: Must-See Documentaries

Yep, seen em. We have a fair amount of time to watch stuff on tour - hurry up and wait and all that! - and enjoyed them a lot. Free Solo was fucking terrifying. Murder Mountain is also great.

Re: Rider

I guess it has changed over the years, but it's pretty basic. Just what we need for a show. Some lunch food (sandwich stuff), the booze people want (generally beer, tequila and red wine), a whole bunch of water. Nothing fancy. Many years ago, helping out backstage at shows, I encountered bands who h...

Re: Folk by the Oak

Uh, I guess I do vary sets a little by audience, but it's balanced by a sense of trying to present my best self in all situations - I don't want to bend over backwards for an audience, there's a middle ground in there somewhere. We shall see.

Re: Sam Cooke

I read the Peter Guralnick one, I think. Great writer. I love Sam Cooke; "One Night Stand At Harlem Square" is one of the best live records of all time, for me. Love the whole thing.

I like a lot of Otis Redding, and yeah Marvin Gaye is ace too.

Hi there. We have a few ideas, but we don't currently have the wherewithal for a full tour like we did in the UK. Will post about them when I know more.

Re: Build Me Up Buttercup

Hey Frank, Heard the original for the first time the other day on the radio and had no idea how upbeat it was originally, and don’t really know anything at all about it. What’s the backstory behind your cover? Cheers, Steve Hi there. I was asked to cover a song from 1968 to mark the 40th anniversar...
